About Us

1939

Founded in 1939, Shawsheen Rubber Company, Inc. was established to manufacture specialty adhesive compounds for use in the shoe industry. Over the years, product focus expanded to include application of custom adhesive formulations to textiles and papers, as well as, converting vinyl-coated cloth into shoe-binding materials. Over time, opportunities were pursued in a number of industries including automotive, appliance and packaging.

1980's

During the 1980’s, the Company focused on designing ophthalmic polishing pad materials with "removable/repositionable" pressure sensitive adhesive systems, as well as, the commission or toll coating and converting of materials supplied by third parties.

1984

In 1984, the Company launched the Arrowhead Athletics division to pursue opportunities in the athletic tape market.

1997

In late 1997, Denis Kelley and Walter Nugent teamed together to purchase the Company from the estate of its founder.

1998

In early 1998, the Company began doing industrial business as Shawsheen Coating & Converting to more accurately reflect its current products and services.

Over the years, the Company has earned the respect of its customers as a reliable provider and an innovative source for solving tough application problems using solvent and water based formulations.

2000's

Throughout the 2000's and today, Shawsheen continues to leverage its expertise in the design and application of a wide range of solution coatings to provide its new and existing customers with valuable, consistent solutions and innovations.

Today the company is still located in Andover, Massachusetts and employs over 50 employees at its 45,000 square foot facility.

2000's

2015

In 2015, Shawsheen was acquired by Wembly Enterprises. Wembly introduced significant investment into Shawsheen, focused on driving long-term growth under the existing management team.

Management Team

Denis KelleyCoating and Converting Division Marketing Manager

  • Denis joined Shawsheen in 1977 in a marketing and sales role. Through his tenure at Shawsheen, he served as Assistant General Manager, General Manager and Vice President. Denis was responsible for the launch of the Arrowhead Athletics division in 1984. Denis has extensive experience in developing new product which meet a specific customer need, and delivering that product within an acceptable price range to meet market conditions.
  • Through the years, Mr. Kelley has led development of several new and leading-edge products for the ophthalmic lens industry and for the apparel and industrial fabrication markets.

Walter NugentVice President of Sales and Marketing, AA Division Sales & Marketing Manager

  • Walter has been with the Company since 1984 and has been responsible for the Arrowhead Athletics Division since its inception. He has led its growth into private label manufacturing activities and oversaw implementation of ISO 9001:2000 and FDA facility registration.
  • During the past 15 years, Walter has developed, introduced and marketed a number of products within the Arrowhead Athletics division, including Thin Flex and Protective+Plus. He has also planned and directed the AA Division efforts to increase contract manufacturing of athletic tapes for several national, branded firms.

Jonathan McEuenVice President of Business Development and Chief Financial Officer

  • Jonathan is responsible for customer development, product planning and strategy, and oversight of investment strategy for Shawsheen. Jonathan previously launched new companies in biotechnology (a platform company developing lipid and nanovesicle encapsulation technology), and commercialized SaaS technology serving hospital customers.
  • Jonathan received his PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, his Bachelors of Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and received his MBA in healthcare management from the Wharton School.

Carlos RestrepoPresident and CEO

  • Carlos joins Shawsheen from Aceto Corporation, where he led Performance Chemicals. Prior to this, Carlos demonstrated years of success in leading teams and driving business growth at International Specialty Products, now part of Ashland Inc. Carlos has demonstrated impactful leadership as a general manager, SVP, and Business leader in elastomers, intermediates, solvents, and industrial chemicals.

John FilerGeneral Manager

  • John manages and oversees the overall direction, control and management of all manufacturing and logistical operations at Shawsheen. John joined Shawsheen in February of 2013. Previously, John was Vice President of Operations at Bradford Industries where he led a strong technical team in the manufacture of a wide range of technical coated products for the automotive industry.
  • John holds a BS in Chemical Engineering from Clarkson University and an MBA from Northeastern University.

Gary LitmanVP of Technology

  • Gary Litman has defined his career in the tape industry by developing products that either disrupt or revolutionize industrial applications and markets. From his career at Venture Tape to Plymouth Rubber to Adhesive Applications, Gary has shown an innate command of adhesive chemistry, substrate properties and coating technology for over 30 years.

Brian WalshFacility Manager

  • Brian manages and directs equipment and facility improvements. Brian works closely with the Product Development and Process Engineering teams on new product development, process improvements and equipment upgrades providing key inputs on equipment and facility impacts. Brian also plans and manage all capital projects for cost, engineering, installation and logistics.

Alvaro AlegriaProduct Development Engineer

  • Alvaro is responsible for all technical aspects of product development, process improvement and modifications to production. Previously, Alvaro acted as the lead quality supervisor for Andover Healthcare where he developed extensive experience in adhesive and cohesive tape products.
  • Alvaro holds a BS in chemical engineering from the University of Valle in Colombia and a MMS from the University of Massachusetts.
